To help international students qualify for professional practice, the University of Auckland has launched the Master of Professional Engineering (Civil).

Here is how to know which of Auckland's two Civil Engineering Master's degrees matches your background and career plans.

What is the New Master of Professional Engineering?

This new program is designed for students whose current engineering or science degree is not Washington Accord accredited.

In New Zealand, having a recognized degree is a key step toward becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). If your degree from back home does not match New Zealand standards, this program builds the exact bridge you need.

Which Engineering Pathway Matches Your Degree?

The University of Auckland offers two different Master's degrees in Civil Engineering. Choose the option that fits your prior education:

1. Master of Professional Engineering (Civil)

Best for: Students without a Washington Accord degree.
Goal: Gives you practical skills and helps you meet New Zealand professional standards.

2. Master of Civil Engineering

Best for: Students who already have a Washington Accord degree.
Goal: Focuses on advanced technical subjects and research.
